Canon Eos Utility Won’t Start

Canon EOS Utility is a tool to transfer your images from the EOS camera to your computer. This tool allows you to remotely operate the camera connected to your computer via a USB cable. If you have any issues with the Windows OS or installation, the Canon EOS Utility won’t start. To fix this problem, remove any corrupted files from your computer and follow these steps to run the utility in compatibility mode on a Windows 10 computer.

Canon EOS Utility Won’t Start
  • First, verify that you have properly connected your EOS camera to your computer.
  • On your computer, open the folder on which you have installed the Canon EOS Utility.
  • Give a right-click on the .exe file and select the Properties option.
  • Navigate to the Compatibility tab and set the Compatibility Mode to Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 8.
  • Make sure to select Windows 8 from the pull-down menu.
  • Close the Properties window and launch the EOS Utility.
  • If the problem persists, click the Start menu available at the bottom-left corner of the desktop.
  • Alternatively, launch the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows + R shortcut keys and type ‘control’ in the text field. Hit Enter to launch the Control Panel.
  • Click the Uninstall a program link beneath Programs in the Control Panel window.
  • Select the Canon Utilities EOS Utility 3 program from the displayed list and click the Uninstall button at the top.
  • If prompted, confirm your action to remove the EOS Utility from your computer.
  • Reboot your computer and launch the default browser.
  • Visit the official Canon site and search for the EOS Utility. Download and save it to your computer.
  • Head to the Downloads folder and double-click the downloaded file to run the installation.
  • Agree to the EULA and follow the on-screen prompts.
  • Register your camera and click Finish to complete the installation.
  • You have now reinstalled the Canon EOS Utility on your computer.
  • If your computer still has any issues, the Canon EOS Utility Won’t start again.
